So hello everyone. I notice that it's been awhile. Just thought I would update you on where I've been. I became aware recently that I've been going through the motions with a bunch of projects in my life. I got it that I need to take some time to check in and see where I really want to focus my energy. At last week's LifeWorks (my company) meeting, I told my team that I was going to take a few weeks away from all the business stuff to get clear about the future direction of the company. I playfully shared that I was taking a sabbatical from my own business. As it turns out the only thing I'm drawn to do is go sit on a beach and so that is what I plan to do. I shared this with my friend Dan Howard and he said it looked like I was really taking a sitbatical. That felt more appropriate. So I'm going to go sit and see what's next.
There is so much that I can share and teach from my last 13 years of being a life coach and facilitator and what I get now is that it is time to refine to see what is the juiciest thing that I want to share and teach about.
I will be checking in from time to time to give you updates as I have them. In the meantime, I suggest you take some time to see what it is you are really about. I'm getting that living in my genius means that I am continually refining who I am and what I'm about. So what is most important to you at this time?
Aloha...

Spring Fever - March 08 Newsletter
Reaching Down, Reaching Up
My friend Auretha pointed out to me that at this time of year the plants in the ground are reaching their roots down into the earth to gather the nutrients they need to spring forth from the ground. So I’ve been practicing reaching down into myself to get the energy and focus I need for this year. I’ve been doing this by resting, allowing myself to take naps and sitting in the sun to write and read. I invite you to ask yourself the following questions:
Death and Rebirth
It’s also Easter time, which for me I think of death and rebirth, a time of transition. I think at this time we are coming out of the death of winter and into creation of spring. I asked a question at the dinner table tonight that I want to share with you. What is dying in you and what are you giving birth to at this time? My answer to this question was that my will power is dying and I’m giving birth to my willingness. All of us at the table were able to bring to consciousness the vital process that was going on deep inside ourselves. Try it on for yourself.
Tips and Tools
I believe that learning isn’t complete until we get it in the body, so here is a whole body activity to assist you in birthing your new creations this year. Do this activity on your hands and knees if your health and flexibility allow. You can also do this activity sitting. It would be great if you could actually do this outside for full effect, but indoors will do if your ego or the weather doesn't allow it.
Activity:
Feel all of the parts of you that are touching the ground. Now imagine you could grow roots from your feet, knees and hands down into the earth. When you sense the roots are in deep, begin to feel them sucking up nutrients and imagine this energy coming up and filling your whole body with life and energy. Take some full belly breaths in as you do this. Breathing up the nourishment and breathing out back into the earth. Do this for a few minuets until you feel a flow of energy. When you feel this flow, begin to stand upright stretching your limbs in as many directions as you can. Stand on your tippy toes and stretch your fingers way out. Imagine as you do this that you are stretching into life and your dreams. Notice how you feel in your body. Make sure and generate some clear pictures of what you want to create as you do this. Remember your mind creates with thoughts and images; your body creates through feeling and movement. This activity engages your whole body in the cycle of creation. I recommend that you do this practice every day for a week, and longer if you like.

- Where do you need to go to nourish yourself?
- What are you stretching into?

An Once of Prevention
I'm feeling so much better. Thanks to all who sent me positive intentions for my healing. I've been getting feedback from my body caregivers that I'm making an incredible recovery. I believe that when you directly address the emotional issues of any physical problem that recovery is sped up considerably.
A friend of mine, Julianna, who is in a graduate program with my mentor Kathlyn Hendricks, called me up during my recovery process to share with me something that she had learned in one of her classes. She told me that she had learned that body pains were an indication of withholding. So she asked me if I had any withholds. By the way withholds are when you have feelings /thoughts/ judgments that you haven't acknowledged to yourself or others. This holding "back" (get it) puts a tremendous amount of pressure on our bodies. I most often think of it as something I haven't spoken to someone that is putting a wedge in my relationship. In the case of my back injury I realized that I was withholding from myself, including sadness that I had held back for over 23 years.
I wanted to share this with you to give you the opportunity to breath into any aches and pains you might have and ask yourself "Is there anything I am withholding from myself or others? Is there anything that I'm resisting feeling?" What I know is that if I'm not proactively cleaning house then I usually create some cosmic 2x4 to remind me of what I haven't been willing to look at. I hope you can let yourself learn form me and don't "hold back."
And, once of prevention is worth a pound of cure... An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Ok, I'll stop. You get the point.

To Be is To Grow
Thanks for you response Angie, I appreciate the opportunity to clarify. I know it seems like what I wrote was about doings, however a baby isn't trying to grow tall he just does. He isn't trying to learn language he just does. So in the natural cycle of being it's not that there is an absence of doing but that it occurs as a natural consequence of being. Nature is never inactive it is always evolving, even when it is dying, it is in motion. Most adults however do things to try to get an outcome rather than to originate movement from their natural state of being. It would be like a rose trying to come up in the middle of winter. I think we can sometimes cultivate our being by not doing anything, in fact I think it is a lovely experiment to try on, and, we can also express our being in action.
One of my favorite practices I learned from Gay Hendricks is called Alpha Days, where you take a day where you simply be until you get an impulse to go do something and then you go do that. One of the rules is you can't do any business related projects including emails, returning calls. In short nothing scheduled and no "have to 's." I've done this for a day and for blocks of time and I find it really helps me distinguish between "being centered" movement from "doing centered movement."

Be Like a Baby and Be
In the Dream Building series my partner and I have been teaching this month, we've been exploring the power of learning how to be. How all creation and action comes from our being. Lots of folks have become human doings. I'm a recovering human doing myself. I'm in the process of re-learning how to be.
So..I was at my Yoga session today and my teacher mentioned that the pose we were in was one of the first ways a baby begins to look around it's environment. In that moment I had this thought babies are all about being. They're not worried if they're wearing name brand onesies or rushing off to work, they're simply being them, which mostly is curious and playful. Then I had the awareness of the tremendous amount of growth that occurs in those formative years. They learn a whole new language, they learn how to crawl, walk, grasp, roll, climb, grow hair, grow tall, and pretty much how life works. I wonder if I/we spent more time cultivating our being if our growing would be easier and quicker. I'm thinking of weight lifting and how when you are lifting the weights how the muscles are breaking down. It's not until we rest that the muscles can rebuild and grow.
I'm going to try and experiment. I intend to spend time everyday being. Giving myself time to be and rebuild. I invite all of you reading this to try this on as well. Be Like a Baby and Be.
I'd love to hear form you how you best BE!!!

Noticing and Recommitting
Thanks everyone for sharing your precious dreams for the new year. I'm imagining that you have experienced successes and blocks to your new vision this last week. One of the things you can reliably count on is that whenever you make bold statements of what you want, you end up with support and often also get to see where you've been stopping yourself.
One of my intentions this year is to live spaciously. I've lived a lot of my life in overwhelm and overdrive. I get lots done but sacrifice my well being. So for me spacious means that I allow myself plenty of space and time to naturally create all that I choose. So of course yesterday I felt the old familiar buzz of the "I've got so much to do and no time to do it" My old pattern rearing it's head for observation. At this point I get to say "Hello, overwhelm, how are you today?" One of the ways I know to open into space is to breathe. Deep breathing literally creates more space in our bodies. So as I'm writing this I'm taking deep breaths and recommitting to spaciousness. In the past when I would get off track I used to either beat myself up or stall myself out by trying to figure out why I got off track. This one simple technique of noticing when I'm off track and recommitting to what I want has saved me so much time and effort. The energy I used expend in my old tactics is now put into bringing myself back in the game.
TRY IT ON:
Notice if you have gotten off track from any of your New Year's Intentions. Simply notice and recommit to your original intent. You may need to do this about 1000 more times through the year this is part of the process. As long as your bring yourself back in the game you can't lose.
Good Luck

GREAT IN 'O8
Thought I would share my motto this year, Great in '08. I feel excited for this year. 2007 in numerology is a 9 which is a completion year. 2008 is a 1 which is all about new beginnings and pioneering new projects.
Over the last few months I've noticed myself and many others clearing out old grunge. I feel like I completed and let go of a ton of emotional energy this last few months. I feel like I'm just looking into the new as I've still been doing completions from last year.
I feel excited to launch new projects and dreams over this next year. Here are some of my intentions for this year: I intend to launch my speaking career and get my new genius products out to the world. I'm excited for all I'm co-creating with my luscious partner Annabeth as we move into health, wealth and more connection this year. My new business, LifeWorks, with my genius team members Troy and Nick are creating a new model for business: a conscious genius company. A company where everyone is doing exactly what they love, based on core principles of integrity and a commitment to creative fulfillment as well as wealth..Pretty Cool Huh?
I'd love to hear about your intentions for the year. Write em up and share them. It's one thing to have a dream and keep it hidden. There is power in expression. So dare to express your dream.
If any of you are local you are welcome to attend our new Dream Building Series where you will learn to dream the best year imaginable and learn to put legs underneath it.
Tues nights 8 to 9:30pm.

Abundance From the Inside
For the last 2 months I have been leading a tele-course on changing your relationship with money. We've been playing with money stories and last week I gave some feedback to a few of the participants on this subject. One of my LifeWorks team mates suggested I post this to my blog. I thought that was a great idea, so here you have it.
Feeling abundant has nothing to do with your bank account. If we have money there, we might get a false sense of relief or o.k.ness or you fear that you can't create it again or never feel like whatever is there is enough. Then there are the people who have money, but in their mind they are poor. The trick is to not outsource your abundance to what the bank account says, or to what you wish it would say, but to connect in with a deeper knowing that you are o.k. in this moment and the next and the next. Throughout our lives our bank statement will go up and down, true abundance is knowing your o.k. no matter what.
As many of you know I love Tennis. Recently I was watching the U.S. Open and I heard some of the announcers say that the mark of a true champion is that you can't tell by watching them if they are up or down in a match, their play is the same (their best game) no matter what the score is. WONDER QUESTION ALERT. I wonder how I could play full out no matter what my bank account says? Try it on. Let me know what happens.

SACRED DOG PRACTICES
I've not been blogging as of late with my travels and new products I'm playing with. This is just a quick check in to let you know I'm still here. I plan to be more regular as of my return to SLC after Nov 10th.
Recently one of my students sent me this story about an old dog that was being put down and there was a little blurb about how we humans might learn something from our furry friends. I'm currently exploring the lie on my back routine and I rather enjoy it.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle Them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!
I'll be posting next week, until then I suggest taking on one of the "Dog Practices" and let me know how it goes.

How Bout a Little bit of R and R?
As a follow up to the last post I've come up with my own formula for creating balance. I think this is Cool. Most people, when they think of R&R, it looks like numbing out or passing out. I got to thinking about my Bikram Yoga class which is all about going all the way in to the pose and then resting. Their philosophy is if you don't go at 100% you can't go into a full rest. In other words in order to be able to rest you have to risk. I've had the experience many times of going half ass in a pose and then feeling my body not be able to let go. Conversely have you ever felt a "really good tired" after a full day of adventure and experience?
My new experiment is called Risk and Rest. When we stretch ourselves it's important to allow time for integration to allow ourselves to adjust to the expansion . On the other hand I know when I've been stuck in a comfort zone and not risking enough, I feel restless and no matter how much rest I get, it's never enough.
I had tea with my tennis team today and there is an older lady (late 60's, killer forehand) who was telling me that it is important to her to do something to stretch herself at least once a year. Last year she went dog sledding for three days. She said that she was so exhilarated that she didn't come down for days. She expressed that she feels more alive and confident and that she carries this forward to challenges in her life where she thinks "well if did that..I can do this."
I think I've always known this principle on some level (see the post: Fear Play at Lagoon) and now I feel I'm incorporating it into my daily life as well as those big life opportunities. These days I often challenge myself to risk in some area on a daily basis. Lately that has translated into following through on some things I've been scared to do. I seem to sleep better on those nights.
I'm also noticing my life and career is launching in new and surprising ways. I feel more alive than I have in years.
I follow up my risking by watching my favorite show "Ellen" or playing tennis or a taking nap. Sometimes I do a little celebration dance..Ya Me!!
This week's challenge is to look for some area to risk in.. maybe take an action step that you've been avoiding or maybe sign up for that dance class you've been thinking about. Then see if you can begin to challenge yourself everyday, just a little. Life begins outside our comfort zone. So let life begin, but remember to celebrate and rest afterwards and you will train your body to easefully expand.
Happy R and R-ing

I Took the Challenge
So last week I invited all of us to take some area where there was a negative focus and channel it into something positive. I chose to channel my worry thoughts around food into connection. Wow..did I ever have a cool day. I reconnected with 2 friends I hadn't seen for a long time and created a great time with them. I connected with 2 other people I had been trying locate. Also, two very key people offered to support me as I go national. Woo Wee!!
This is so simple yet I(we) often forget that we can shift things simply with a shift of attention. My mentor Katie Hendrick(see link) said once that the power to shift our attention is the power of transformation. I really got a body learning on this that day. When I put my focus into something I don't want I'm not only attracting that, but I'm taking it away from something I really want. I read once that in every moment we are either creating or destroying. Creative life force energy is always moving through us, our attention determines where it goes. Just like a fire hose pointed in the wrong direction could be disastrous. So my invitation is to tune into your attention and see where your hose is pointed. If you don't like it change direction. Are you creating or destroying? Remember you can post any of your learning's or ask questions on this blog.
Right now I'm off to create a little night time snooze.
See you next week

I Hope You Dance
The country song "I Hope You Dance" (don't know who it's by), is one of the songs that I feel most deeply in my body. The song for me is about getting off the sidelines in life and fully participating with our whole selves. I have always had this sense of so many possibilities for myself and everyone around me. I never understood how people could be bored, I can think of about 20 things I could be experiencing in every moment. There is so much beauty to see, so many books to read, so much amazing art, so many cool people I haven't met, so many places to see in the world, so many water adventures still to see, so many opportunities to create and express and love. Now I'm not saying I never lounge around and do nothing..but hanging out in nothing is pretty awesome when the rest of my life is so full.
Today I got a forwarded e-mail, normally I don't open forwarded mail but because it was my friend Daisy I did. The e-mail was about putting off joy. The paragraph that most struck me was about the women on the Titanic who may have passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in order to cut back...Man that would've sucked. It made me think of all the worrying I do about what I eat, how much I eat..did I just eat too much? I realize how much energy I'm wasting in this arena, that I could be using to participate in all things I love. So for today I commit to me and you that I will use that energy for creating deeper connection with myself and anyone I play with today.
The bottom paragraph of this letter reads: "Life may not always be the party we hoped for...but while we are here we might as well dance." I challenge anyone who reads this to take some area where you are using your energy to beat yourself up or worry and put that towards something you love instead..read a book..write a poem..tell someone you love them..Life is Short Jump In!!
Thanks for reading
